There are some "Blue-Green" algae that look brown. You'd do best to just treat
it like
a Blue-Green (Cyanobacteria) although it is likely (in my experience) a mixture
of
diatoms, Blue-Greens, and other algae. You should use a fine-mesh net to run
through
the water after cleaning - you can pick up a lot of the algae that way before it
reattaches. Eventually it will diminish if you keep harvesting it and taking
away the
food source - which is likely a film of fish waste and food that is building up
on the
plant leaves and other surfaces.
