I stopped by Pan Intercorp on Saturday and was very very impressed. The guys were very nice and took me on a little tour. I told them a bit about what I was involved with doing the koi fry grow-out contest, and what color genes we might be working with based on the photos of Steev's pond fish spawning and his notes about his favorite color types. We talked quite a bit about color development in koi fry which was very useful and at least now I have some very general guidelines for evaluating my koi fry. I was worried because the biggest fry are grey with a pale iridescent blue sheen and I didn't want to spend lots of space resources on these fish if they were wild-type koi. The blue sheen is their saving grace, apparently. Anyone else have koi fry from Steev going this route with the all-over blue sheen?? I'm also curious about what's going to happen with the golden orange ones with the black dot on their heads...these are the most common in my batch of fry. Anyway, they'd be happy to host a small group on a tour if we are interested. There was more to see (like the big expensive koi in the buildings) that I 'saved' for later (wink). Also, they were apparently hit by otters recently and the pretty little display pond outside the office is empty (sad sad sad). I went home and got sick with a cold otherwise I would have posted about this sooner!
