Re: [GSAS-Member] Fish hunting mammals

I got to watch a group of six (or more) river otters while camping around
St. Helens around a month back. Having watched those things play in
rapids of a river I could barely manage to cross at all, I can see how koi
in a pond would stand ZERO chance.

When I lived in NY my buddies and I used to see mink hunting the creek
banks while fishing quite frequently around dawn and dusk, but never more
than one at a time. They're quick but were nothing compared to the size
of those otters. They would dip into the water sometimes, but seemed to
stick more to the banks, making me think they were spending more time
looking for mice or frogs than fish?

Earlier this year I saw what I think was a long-tailed weasel running
across traffic around 10 blocks west of the 175th street exit off I-5 in
Shoreline. Never knew we had weasels in this area prior to that.

The racoons are waaaaay slower than any of the previously mentioned
critters, but make up for speed with frequency. On my last check I'm down
to one blue of reasonable size (1.5+"), and maybe a half dozen
"headspots"-- hopefully there are some more that are just better at hiding
than I am at noticing...
