I hear that river otters and mink are regularly sighted at the Arboretum especially if you sneak about in a quiet canoe. No personal experience there.... > Earlier this year I saw what I think was a long-tailed weasel running > across traffic around 10 blocks west of the 175th street exit off I-5 in > Shoreline. Never knew we had weasels in this area prior to that. I see long-tailed weasels (Mustela frenata) several times a year running across the road. One place I see them regularly is along the same road Pan Intercorp is located on but just a bit further north. As developers take down more and more of the open space on that road, I'm sure we'll lose the weasels (sigh). My Siberians have killed at least one (at my old place on 39th in Bothell). Yep...Siberians have a tendency to take down small critters (weak grin). > On my last check I'm down > to one blue of reasonable size (1.5+"), and maybe a half dozen > "headspots"-- hopefully there are some more that are just better at hiding > than I am at noticing... I had 20 or so koi babies outside in a waterlily tub and I just moved them to a 10 gallon tank this weekend so I could watch them more easily. That took quite a bit of moving of potted waterplants and netting through the tub but there were 16 left and some interesting patterns! These are smaller than the ones I kept inside but not much smaller although there is still one that has barely grown at all. And I've got around 16-17 left in a 10 gallon tank inside. It's a planted tank and it's hard to count as they move about (sigh). I think I put 20 in there and one jumped/one died. And there are 2-3 spread through various large stock tanks/live food tubs where it would be really tough to catch them. So total....just less than 40 so, yep, some need to go to new homes!
