I'm buying materials in preparation for setting up a planted tank. I'm 
wondering what other people use for their substrates and their depths. There's 
a lot of conflicting information out there.

My current tank that's successful has 3" of Flourite with a 2" sand layer, and 
that seems like a lot of dpth lost to substrate.
