These are also known as Green Texas Cichlids, and they star on the current GSAS membership card. I got this pair at one of our annual auctions, several years ago. When I got them, they were cute and smaller than my Congo tetras. http://wrongcrowd.com/gallery/aq-critters/green_texas_cichlid They are now gigantic. The male has got to be 9" long at least, and burly. They spawn frequently, but as I do not want more giant fish I have never bothered to care for the fry, letting nature take its course. The pair is somewhat aggressive when breeding, of course, but the other fish in my 90 gal community-style tank have always weathered the chasing fine. These fish aren't murderers, unless you count time time I put in some platys who turned out to be bite-sized. Oops. I love these fish, but I found an old picture of my aquarium and I decided that I want plants in my tank again. Would anyone like them? Based on their current size and behavior, I would say they need a 90 gal tank if housed with other fish, maybe a 50 if they are by themselves. It would be wonderfully serendipitous if whoever wanted these fish had some Congo tetras, silver dollars, or clown loaches to trade. I have all of those and each school could use another couple of fish. However, there's no trade or cash requirement. I just want them to have a good home with a cichlid lover. I'll be damned if I take them to the LFS for a pittance and an early doom. I live in Kirkland, btw.
