Even if 40F doesn't do it... Freezing would. You could process substrate
through your freezer to clear it. What a mess, though!

Doesn't copper clobber snails? You could remove the loaches...

Anyway, I have MTS and I don't mind them. At work, I see them rarely. In my
big tank at home, I never see them. The clown loaches may have gotten them.
