Roy,
I double checked my calculation and I hope the following formulas are
right(anyway if you are going to use them please use a test kit to make sure is
OK).
To raise the hardness of a gallon of water with 1dH you can use:
-74.69 mg CaCl2 or
-165.72 mg Epsom Salt or
-67.28 mg CaCO3
Based on these formulas I made a routine for my 55 gal tank. Weekly I changed
22.5 gal of water. To raise the hardness of this water with 2dH I use 3g CaCl2
and .75 g Epsom salt.
To be easier for me I prepared 2 solutions:
-30 g CaCl2 disolved in DI water to obtain 300 ml solution
-7.5 g Epsom salt disolved in DI water to obtain 300ml solution
Every week I put 30ml from each solution in 22.5 gal water(4dH) to raise the
hardness to 6dH and I use this water to make water changes.
Hope this will help and don't forget to use a test kit to verify this
calculation if you are going to use it.
Daniel
