Interesting. I recently learned that artificially raising discus fry on egg
yolk mixes, which I first attributed to Jack Wattley, actually was discovered
in the late 1950's/early 1960's.

Around the same time, some aquarists learned that the discus fry can be raised
on baby brine shrimp, too.

The risk with the egg yolk mixes is fouling the water, but if you are diligent
and keep the containers clean (Wattley used old porcelain bowls), they grow
fast.

Wayne Leibel had an article in a recent TFH about contact feeding in cichlids;
Discus aren't the only ones that do this.
