The only algae I have in my 90 gal at home is green spot and that stuff is way too tough for any magnetic scraper. Sometimes at work I get the soft green-brown stuff and the magnetic scraper works OK on that... but by the time it is an issue I should be doing a water change and pruning anyway, so my hands are already in the tank and I can use a pad. All I really use the magnetic scrapers for is holding food. I glued a plastic "chip clip" to the part inside the tank, and use it to hold zucchini for the pleco. YMMV.
