Wrap the barrel with a blanket or water heater insulation blanket, then
cover with plastic. Make sure to put some kind of insulating material under
the barrel.

I have moved live crab around in a cooler and while the insulating
properties were nice, the cooler did a terrible job at containing the
sloshing water.
A cooler in a trash bag to contain sloshes might be pretty good though.
