Wow, I don't know what to say! First, thank you very much Shango for the kind words, I truly appreciate them. It has been 18 months since I have joined GSAS, and when I joined I made a commitment to "get involved" with the club and try to contribute. I have belonged to several organizations over the years and experience has shown me that more involved I get with a club or organization, the more I enjoy and get out of that club. Also, I have been inspired by others here at GSAS who have shown me how to get involved, and helped me get started. We are fortunate to have many members here at GSAS who contribute (and have contributed in the past) "behind the scenes" to help make our Club a success. Until I got involved, I did not realize the amount of work and planning that goes into putting together our meetings and keeping our club running. Along with the board functions, members contribute their personal time to work on the club's behalf. Some of the functions I used to take for granted are: our absolutely great Newsletter; our GSAS website including maintenance and this Member Chat; meeting videos (both taking and editing); speaker choices, procurement and coordination; accounting (both expenses and auction income); coordination with SPU for meeting rooms, rent, and special requirements; Annual and Plant auctions including donations (both vendors and sponsor store), logistics and computers, sound, and camera; membership coordination; Summer Picnic; Home Show; BAP; HAP; Christmas Party; Hospitality (refreshments!); Library; and a host of other functions. Wow, I'm tired just listing them all! How did I get started? I showed up early and helped set up the room prior to our monthly meetings. I started attending the board meetings, and helping where I could. When I asked about the HAP program I was told it was "dormant" and needed a Chairperson, so I volunteered and I am glad I did. It has been a blast! I guess my point is this, that if you want to get more out of your club, ask yourself what you can do to put more into it. As good as our club is we can make if better. What have you done to improve your club lately? Thank you!
