I spent Wednesday morning cleaning and preping my tanks to make sure that they would be in good shape while I was out of town. One little mistake though... I left a lighting timer in the 'On' position. I'm now looking at a massive carpet of cladophora (I think...) smothering my HC, two species of micro sword, and chain sword (not to mention a world class collection of black-beard algae.) Just last month, I had given up on trying to remove a smaller infestation from HC and glossostigma. I tried manual removal on a daily basis and slamming Excel at 3x the recommended dosage for several days, but in the end, I resorted to drastic mowing/pruning or removing the plants altogether and starting over. I'm worried I'm going to loose another round. Any adivce before I dig in on Sunday? -John As a post script: I have found nerite snails and the Siamese Algae Eater to very effective. The SAE may be getting some new friends tomorrow... Also on the plus side (literally), my Otocinclii had one heck of an alage feast for Thanksgiving. Final post script: After a water change and missing 3 days of EI dosing, I am very interested to see what all that extra algae growth has done to the iron, phosphate and nitrate levels.
