Dave,
As sad as it sounds, December/January is my favorite time to shop for timers
as the market floods with heavy duty outdoor units. I looked over the
weekend and saw 3prong (good), multiple (2-6), and covered. The electronic
units are also dropping in price.

I've started using these, which are half-timed, half-untimed:
http://www.amazon.com/Woods-5522575-Outlet-Power-Strip/dp/B001DEF7SM/ref=sr_
1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1259516040&sr=8-1
What's not shown in that picture is the cover for the timer mechanism,
which helps to keep dust, fish food, water, etc, out of it.
I really like being able to control multiple tanks (on the 4
timer-switched outlets) from one strip, and having the non-switched
outlets on the same strip is convenient.
I've not had any significant noise from the ones I've had for 2 years,
although YMMV.
