While herbivore community fish indeed eat their vegetables, they test everything in their mouth to see if it is food. While they might not actually eat the young shrimp, they do tend to give them a good chew. I think alot of it will depend on the personality of your particular SAE however. With how large an SAE's mouth gets in comparison to a baby shrimp, I think you ought be prepared for losing some if you put an adult SAE with young shrimp. Add more dense plants for sure!
