I have a good sized UV steralizer on a 45 gallon acrylic tank. I don't have a comparable control tank, but relative to my other stetups, I see no appreciable difference in algae control (green spot or otherwise). I installed it hoping that it would reduce the chance of disease and deter some algal growth, but relative to the other tanks I have, I could not claim a significant difference. My UV sterilizer is installed inline with the output from a Magnum 350 that I also use as a CO2 reactor. To date, running with or without UV doesn't seem to show any direct correlation to algae growth. From my limited experience, consistent CO2 and fertilizer dosing appears to correlated to minimal macro algae growth and reduced lighting interval appears to be correlated to reduced green spot algae. I will watch with interest to see what others have deduced from their usage of UV. -John On Thu, Jan 7, 2010 at 10:51 PM, Matt Staroscik <matt@wrongcrowd.com> wrote: > I noticed that you can get submersible UV sterilizer units that include a > pump for pretty cheap these days.
