Ok, ok...I'm gonna start a cichlid tank.
I resisted for years because I had mixed reactions to an old girlfriends
Cribenza tank where they were always getting all red and shoving each other
back and forth for turf. I like a chill community tank where everyone gets
along.
BUT...
I am kinda fish bored and need something new and Cichlids have so many colors
and personalities. I have always wanted bright fish, yellow would be the best,
but am not ready for a marine tank.
I think the idea of shell dwellers is fun and mouth breeding sounds fun and I
can even handle the territoriality now. I also like the idea of having a tank
that couldn't have plants and was only rock which I think is the whole story
with Cichlids.
Here is the point of this post though...where do I start? There are a TON of
cichlids.
I would like some that...
-are brightly colored
-don't have especially high water needs
-might breed for me
-might be territorial but won't actually nip/cause damage to each other, just
flare color and move aggressively
-can handle a gravel tank bottom
-will be happy in a 29GAL
-Not above $15 each.
If ya'll would suggest a handful of species to begin looking at, I would
appreciate it.
Thanks
Shango
