Indeed, because they are so inexpensive they are treated as "bulk" often and their mortality is really high. They are also a small and fragile fish. I usually expect to lose two when I buy 10. My experience is not that they usually have disease though. Just that they are overpacked into tanks and bags and they have to fight for food because of the sheer number of them kept together. I find that they are sensitive to water changes and chemicals too. They are very sensitive to high CO2 as well.
