Sorry, this thread is sooo old (at least 12 hrs), but I just wanted to explain why *I* prefer to emphesize that the judging be on the art of aquascaping. (I'm surprised at the traffic that this group is generating! It may be challenging to keep up with, but I think it bodes well for when the "real" work starts.) I have a feeling that the "best" looking tanks are going to be the ones that are "artistically" aquascaped. Whenever I've made a statement suggesting the judging be based on art, I meant that the *judging* be based on art. I don't think any of us would want the contest to be *promoted* as an art show. My point was that *anybody* can judge "what tank looks the best" and that when it comes to the credentials for judges, I'd rather see an artist on the panel than a bio-chemist (even though they both would be adequate). Anyway, my point to this post is that while we may have *many* nice looking tanks, the best are going to be hard to seperate and I think that the "artistic" portion of aquascaping will be what seperates the best from the rest. This does not have to be emphesized when we promote the contest, but I think that when choosing judges it might be nice to keep this in mind.
