Guidelines

I'm not sure I like an entire category for color (or colour <g>), unless it
means something like "vibrance" (or would that be "hue saturation" <g>). In
other words, I don't really think that one entry should get more points for
using red versus the entry that uses only green plants (or no plants, let's
not forget that). What about someone who uses red gravel? What about the
color of the backdrop? This will probably all be covered in the
Composition-Content-Concept-Impression category.

The reason I'm leaning towards the "Zen" judging, or whatever you want to
call it, is for the same reasons James is mentioning above -- these
guidelines need to be inclusive of all entries, not just tailored to a
planted tank. The tank should look nice no matter what materials are
included and should really WOW the viewer. I think what James might be
talking about when comparing the judging to a turnip contest is that we
don't really have any hard and fast "rules" here. (Like you will be
disqualified if your tank contains this plant or that plant or a
combination, or your fish must be at least this size or no bigger than
such-and-such, etc.) All I'm hearing so far is that it cannot be a marine
tank, and I think that's fine.

On the other hand, Olga and Karen, you are correct that most of the
categories that you have thrown up are _very_ similar to what Justin posted
originally. Just a few differences we need to work out and some
similarities we need to solidify.

Karen, interesting suggestion about having a trial run. I like it.

I also have another, unrelated, question for you, Karen (just looking back
at some older stuff). Maybe I missed it, but what is a "publication
quality" photo? Does it have certain technical specs? (Shot on certain
film, a certain size, etc.?)
