From both "A" and "B" - can we agree that (A.5) and (B.5) are in > agreement in principle and can be successfully expressed as "Overall > Impression"? (And thus, settled.) Again, works for me. Given the alternatives, I like "Overall Impression" better. Its more professional, and still simple enough to be understood by us average schmoes. > We would then be left with points (A.2), (A.3), (B.1), (B.2), and finally, > (B.3). > > How general, inclusive, easily understood are each of the general concepts > contained within each of those points? Can any be merged in order to reduce > the number of major Concepts, or are any in reality part of another Concept? > Are they ALL deserving of full Criteria status? I am comfortable leaving "Theme/Concept" off the list of guidelines. I like the idea, but don't see it as critically important. It could also conceivably be absorbed into "Overall Impression/WOW Factor". No matter what, I would think that if a contestant wrote on their entry "attempted to duplicate a patch of cryptocoryne (speling?!?) stream in this tank, with an eye to artful arrangement" that, at least for, ups the WOW of the tank quite a bit. It also tend to make me look a little more, and the tank would stand out in my mind as one that some extra effort was put into. The extra energy trying to actually make the tank look like something specific, to me, can make or break an aquascape, since it will determine if an actual plan is followed in the decoration and planting. As for the other categories, I personally like Use of Space, which is listed on both lists, Use of Materials, which is also listed on both lists, and, maybe Use of Color. The last one strikes me as kind of esoteric and artsy, but I can live with it. Justin Collins, who would be more coherent if he was getting more sleep.
