Dave is wondering about the number of judges.... When preparing the proposal, I first of all outlined all of the information that I feel the AGA MC would need in order to give proper consideration to the proposal. Due to the level of detail we have gone into in a number of areas, it quickly became apparent that the denser stuff had to come out of the "body" of the proposal and would be better placed in "appendices" at the end, with proper references to the appropriate appendix in the body of the report. Any other form of organization would result in a VERY difficult to read and follow proposal. The number of judges is really dependent upon the number of entries.... if we had left the # of entries opened and received thousands of entries, we would need a lot of judges to be able to review them. If we have only a few entries, only a few judges would be required.... As this hopefully might become an annual event (keeping my fingers crossed that we can do it at least once....) the basic proposal can be approached as a broad frame of reference and the basic groundwork for future years. Anything which goes into the appendices is of course subject to adjustment and change but the exact number of judges isn't as important as the judging guidelines and scoring guidelines they should use (both of which made it into the appendices, due to the detail level of the information). I _believe_ that we have settled on five judges as being an appropriate number, given our entry limit of 300. This number WILL appear in the BODY of the proposal, but it didn't seem appropriate to mention it in the appendices, as it doesn't really qualify as "dense detail". Once the AGA MC has accepted/rejected/modified the basic proposal, we can move to looking for specific judges. I intend to give only a brief outline of what we think might be an "appropriate" type of person - knowledge of aquariums, aquascaping, stature within the hobby, etc. there are others MUCH better able to select and approach potential judges than I am, and they can be asked at the appropriate time.
