Update on Judging Site (still conceptualizing)

Right now we have a grand total of two official complete entries, and two
partial entries (no money paid yet). Some two dozen people have
registered on the site, but generally stop at this point without entering.

It's been quite a bit more busy the past few weeks than I was expecting (I
haven't updated the prizes yet); trying to complete other projects, etc.
Not going to get much better in the next week and a half either, as we're
going to ACA. Hoping to take a stab at some things this weekend, but not
holding my breath.

But the big plan is that I'll do a massive marathon programming session to
get all the judging stuff written.

I already programmed some very preliminary work on the site in the form of
a Matrix of each category and size with a pulldown for each Judge
(assuming three judges per category, but no limit on how many categories
an individual judge may be assigned). When a judge logs into the site,
they will see a "Judge" option that leads them to a menu of each category
they are judging, each of which in turn leads them (in random order?)
through the entries in each category similarly to the sample gallery of
George Booth's tank, except with the score sliders at the bottom. There
will also be an option to "review" or "index" all the entries in order to
jump to particular entries and correct the scores. I'll probably solicit
help from the group to beta test this with some made-up entries, so you'll
know when I'm getting close. :)

I haven't resolved if/what to do in the "round 2" timeframe, when all of
the scores are in and the judges might need to confer amongst themselves,
change scores, etc. I suspect it will sink in as I think about it.

I'm thinking I'll offer the judges two approaches to the process: 100%
Internet, including downloading the pictures off the site, and "CD-ROM
Assisted Internet" where the (dynamic and interactive) pages will download
off the site but the (static) images will come off a local CD-ROM saving
download time. I am pretty sure I can do this in a slick
platform-independent manner that launches from the CD.
