Re: mailing list "How about we e-mail them and ask them to join the list rather than set it up for them? That way, they choose the e-mail address they will use." You mean "aga-contest-digest" right? With the intention of moving them to their own list eventually (I don't want the judges's discussion to be readable by the public or by anyone who might have an entry in the event. I deliberately haven't entered, for that reason.) Re: CD-ROMS for judges "I'm thinking they probably won't need it, but I will try to program up something this week." That's cool - we can ask them individually if they would prefer to have one or if they have broad-band access to the net so that download times for images would not cause them problems. Re: People's Choice "Yep. My concern is, still, that there will be ballot-stuffing in a people's choice award unless we make everyone register (icky). Not a lot of experience with this sort of polling yet..." Six of one, half a dozen for the other..... you are the one who will be saddled with the work (i.e programming) so I'll leave that decision to you. "On the other hand, it would be incredibly easy to add a "entrant's choice" judging. I will freeze out the registration process and only allow people who've already registered to get back on the site, where they can vote." Interesting....... I had never thought of that..... how many people do you think would vote for someone OTHER than themselves???? Once of the reasons we suggested a People's Choice Award was to involve the general public with the whole thing. It sort of opens it up to "everyone", whether or not they made the effort to enter an aquascape. As well, the "entrant's choice" (as opposed to People's Choice) could be interpreted as us thumbing our nose at all of those who keep aquariums but who didn't enter (for whatever reason). Do we really want to do this? (Privately, I might be disappointed if some of the folks I hope to see enter don't bother to do so, but I don't think I'd want to publicly thumb my nose at them for not getting involved.) Re: Showcase vs Contest "Zero. Nada. Nobody. Everyone wants that bow-front tank." mmmmm..... sort of makes me wonder what all of those "shy" people were going on about at the beginning of our discussion..... we spent so much time trying to let them know that it was a friendly showcase as well as a competition. Did we not do a good enough job getting that message out? Or is that bow front tank just TOO attractive???? B.T.W., I did get a private e-mail from one person saying that it was the bow front tank that he was aiming for.......
