Prize Distribution.... Take 3.....
I took a couple of hours last night (too many hours actually, I didn't get
to bed until 4:00 am) to plug actual merchandise into the Prize Distribution
scheme I had developed. It was/is very difficult to get "matching" values in
each of several categories due to the varying values of the different prizes
we have to distribute. I also had to try and select items that would be
apppropriate for the different categories (an undergravel filter might be a
dumb prize for someone with an aquatic garden). I have adjusted the "aim
points" for the different categories and rankings, in light of Ken's
comments but I still want to acknowledge the higher level of competition in
the Aquatic Gardens - Medium and Large Categories with more valuable
packages. I also reserved 9 small items (ranging in value from $9.50 -
$87.00) for the optional Honorary Mention Awards. Here are the results:

Should the Judges decide to award fewer than 9 Honorable Mention Awards (say
they award only 5), the remaining items will be added into the 3rd Place
packages for Gardens - Small, Paludarium, Artificial and Natural (and in
that order, to reflect the differing number of entrants in each of those
categories).
Also, in a couple of instances the actual items in certain packages might
have to be swapped should the winner be located outside of the U.S. (due to
the request from AquaBotanic and Aquarium Driftwood that their Gift
Certificates be given to U.S. residents only due to shipping issues).
I also acknowledge that this scheme (or ANY scheme) is going to be blown to
bits should the Best of Show award eventually go to someone from outside of
the U.S. due to the fact that the most valuable item we have to give away
can only be delivered safely to a U.S. based address. I'll address that in
another post.....
