Re: Prize Distribution.... Take 3.....
I like it! Good job!
The only downside, which is kinda unavoidable, is that some of the
manufacturers have over-inflated the value of their product.
For instance, I've seen the Hydrologix reactor, and it ain't worth $200.
It's a big (TOO big) piece of cylindrical acrylic filled with bio-media
and tapped with nylon doohickeys. The parts are worth at most $25. And
it's (IMHO) a useless piece of junk. The owner of that company is far less
clued-in than even Shawn Prescott as to what plant-keepers really want.
The size of the reactors were chosen completely arbitratily "small,
medium, large", perhaps based on marine applications. See old APD
discussions for more info.
Compare this to the Air Products CO2 regulator, which is a very nice piece
of machinery and something quite worthy of its $175 price tag.
Actually, looking through the list, the ONLY prize I think is misplaced is
the Hydrologix reactor. Everything else seems well-placed and appropriate
for the award level. Okay, maybe the icecap is a little over-inflated
too, but that is debatable, and I think the winner will appreciate it at
any value.
