Advertising in the "Calendar Events" section of TFH is free. It's part of their "Meeting Place" column which features aquarium society news. We are already listed under "General Notices." The format is as follows: 3 -5 November 2000 Chattanooga, TN The Aquatic Gardeners Association presents (or something similar)..... The name of the oganization needs to appear first. All you need to do is e-mail the notice to Mary Sweeney, editor of TFH at: editor@tfh.com. She is in charge of "Meeting Place." I would ask for an acknowledgement. IMO this is the most important place to advertise because I think a lot of hobbyists regularly check this listing. Deadline: the end of the month. We have a paid ad in AFM already under "Aquarium Societies." I could ask them if they would be willing to change the ad for a few months. Providing the change is made by the end of the month, it would appear in the August issue which comes out sometime in July. Points of information. Not many societies advertise in AFM I would imagine due to the high advertising rates as compared to FAMA and of course TFH which is free. NEC doesn't advertise in AFM. In any event, it doesn't matter to me. If the group wants me to inquire about a change for 2 or 3 months, I will do so. I need to know how many months you want the changes for. In FAMA, we are listed under "Specialty Societies" which is free, but only basic information about the group can be listed here. I happen to have an old Oct. '98 issue. There is "Reader's Exchange" (classified ads) which has a "Hobbyist Listing" in which events are listed. It cost $.25 a word to advertise here at that time. I also saw some show announcements above the advertising coupon. I suggest that a current FAMA subscriber take charge of the FAMA advertising. There is an advertising coupon which needs to be filled out should we decide to advertise in the classifieds and you must pay in advance which of course would be reimbursed. I know for sure that TFH and AFM have a three month lead time. I would think FAMA does as well. Should I put it in some of the plant magazines (pond > magazines?)-we have to make it clear this isn't about pond type stuff at all > in our ads. There is usually a 3 or 4 month lead time to send into a > calendar of events if the magazines have one. Charlene It depends. If it's free, why not? But I wouldn't pay to advertise in a magazine which really doesn't target our audience. TFH is the only magazine listed above which has a calendar of events.
