[AGA-mcm] HUGE Hotel Problem!!!!

I was just on the phone with the Marriott TRYING to book my rooms for the
convention. I had put it off because I thought Dorothy and I would be
staying together, I wanted to make sure I knew what nights she wanted before
I booked, and I was under the impression that the rooms were available to us
at the conference rate until late in October. I was told there are no more
rooms available on Thursday 11/11 at the convention rate. I had to book the
room at something like $268!!! That's more than my plane fare!!! We can
kiss a LOT of attendees goodbye at that rate.

They told me that whoever had booked the event with the hotel had only
reserved 40 rooms for Thursday night. They said there was a "possibility"
that another block of rooms could be arranged, but only if the original
person who negotiated the contract contacted them. They also told me that
they have already almost used up the allotted block of rooms for Friday
night as well. (I was going to put off booking at all until this was
straightened out, but they advised me to book now, because they were afraid
I'd lose out on the lower rate for the next night also)

I can't remember who did the final contract signing with the hotel, so I
thought I'd better send this to the list so that someone who holds some sway
there can get on the horn with them and straighten this out. At the same
time, if (whoever) can get them to change my Thursday night reservation to
fall under the convention rates, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I will be
cancelling that room night anyway, and begging a piece of someone's floor
for that night! (Id share my super-expensive room with someone else, but for
$268 you only get one bed :-/
