Re: [AGA-mcm] AGA2K4 Feedback Summary
I'm not going to spend any time couterpointing the 'off the mark'
criticisms, I think we can pick those out and discard them easily and focus
on the ones that help make things better. I would like to say that I
thought it was important for the judges to be heard a bit and I think Erik
did well with only two judges that spoke english. The others judges
speaking Texan and through a translator are naturally going to slow some
things down. It's just going to happen that way. The contest garnered a
lot of discussion on the forums I frequent and having the judges talk about
the contest is the best way to send out 150 people to help answer negative
comments because they know the story from the horses' mouths.
About G being rude, he's not, even when pressed. He's straight forward and
if the person didn't like the real answer they would think he was rude
rather than someone who wasn't sugar-coating things. I'd just figure they
were talking to us in our sleep deprived state and we didn't give them the
answer they wanted.

That criticism came from Leon Garden, not anonymous, so you could always
send him your picture and ask if he got the wrong person. :) Leon has been
to many, if not all, of the AGA conventions over the years.
In terms of personal criticism, this one hit me the hardest:
"During the announcements of the awards, the speaker rudely ran ahead at his
own pace without letting the judges say what they wanted to say, with the
exception of perhaps one judge who seemed to have the microphone the
majority of the time. "
Granted the person had no idea the reason I was doing this was to keep the
awards "announcements" to the 30 minute slot we had planned instead of the
52 minutes it eventually ran once everyone had their say, but hey, maybe
they didn't see the previous years where I was able to keep the judges
better corralled. But I'll sure be trying to have printouts next time, and
having a little huddle with the judges beforehand. Or not, as some (like
Scott) felt it was the "best discussion" on the winners yet.
