Re: [AGA-mcm] Re: Request for Proposals to Host AGA 2006 Convention

I'm sorry to harp on this so I'll let go with this message.
I just think we have to strike a balance between a long
lead time, which speads out the work but lowers the number
of prospective proposers, risks losing team members that
can't maintain the commitment indefinitely and makes some
parts of the deal tougher to nail down versus a short lead
time which does the opposite of these things.

I think it's great if a person is interested maybe 14-16
months ahead, meets with their club and presents the idea,
they chew on it and are convinced they want to do it and so
maybe two months later start working towards a proposal
14-12 months ahead of the convention. Great if they can do
it even sooner. But I just as soon not scare them away with
a lead time much longer than what we'd actually tolerate in
practice. And when push comes to shove, we're pretty
tolerant, possibly because, although we are not beggars for
a deal, we have limited choices -- it's this one club, even
thought late or no convention at all this year.
