Well, re-reading my own e-mail I think that Amano's articles qualify as non-originals and therefore cannot be reprinted. Sorry.
Not quite. The Amano articles ARE originals, since they were submitted directly to us by the author. It is a reprint only if WE mine it from another hobby publication or website that allows reprints.
But I don't believe that we should bite this hand. That could be dangerous. I think we should be nice to Marcus and say that the rules were intended for paper re-prints and no permissions are given for web re-prints. However, we are as interested in growing the hobby as he is, and was there a specific article that he had in mind? Then I can help him with one or two that we have control over (with appropriate links, of course). How about that?
The way to do it is to refer him to the author of the article in question. Then we don't take a chance on ticking a contributor off by allowing something to be printed on the web without their permission... WE don't even put stuff up on the web without asking the author first.
The reprint "rules of ettiquette" were established back before the internet, as a courtesy between hobby organizations to spread information. There are many fewer hobby publications now, we are not on the same level as most of the ones that do exist, and the idea was NEVER meant to include cyberspace in the beginning.
And then make sure to re-word the rules on the web site and in the next TAG.
Definitely.Karen
