Pardon my dark cloud, but. . . If you guys have been watching APD, the book biz is pretty cut-throat. Yes, we did really well on our little autographed copy venture but we were cross marketing with the convention *and* we had a better price than most others could have offered at the time. So that the venture could lose serious money. Perhaps more importantly, the motivation to sell the autographed books back in 2003 was to attract conventioneers. It didn't work out; we didn't attract more conventioneers and instead we made some money on the books due to lower than expected shipping costs -- but our reaason for selling them was the a convention angle -- to bring more folks into that fold. I think we could sell these books now only if we, as a non-prof, undersell viable for-prof offerings. Bbut with no more reason than what? to sell books? increase convention attendance? help AGA fill a role that not being filled? I'm not sure that this particular book-selling would fit well within our mission and I think it needs to if we're going to directly compete with commericial enterprises. Otherwise, let the for-profs do their thing -- it doesn't souond like the available english texts will be hard to get. As for the German texts. Worth investigating but the cost can be high -- too high to make this a practical endeavor for an item with relatively low demand. Mind you, if the demand were higher, Krieger or someone would be publishing the english. Or so it seems to me. sh --- Phil Edwards <biotypical@hotmail.com> wrote: > That's a great idea!
