Re: [AGA-mcm] It's that time again -- Or - It's friggin' mid-October already? Yikes!

I cn help with travel -- it probably comes down to me in as the Treasurer to handle the ticketing, in any event. If someone is helping figure out the timing, then my little piece of this task is all the easier.

Good point about the auction, Erik. It makes one whole important piece -- important substatively as well as financially -- something we don't have to worry about how it's going to happen. You tell us what fits the tech side (runners, for example, or tickets or tags, etc.) and we can work towards that. Besides, your system was the smoothest auction we ever had -- and, oy, what excellent records. ;-)

If Larry can continue the basic negotiations, I'll be happy to work on the specific contract language and do the edits and rewrites.

Does anyone have a list of names of folks we might contact to specifically invite on board? I haven't been to a fish/plant event in so long, I can barely remember my own name.

I'm willing to take on finding speakers and speaker care-and-feeding.  I could probably handle their travel arrangements too, but let's see if other people step up.

Personally, I'm all for hearing stuff I haven't heard before. Some of this stuff is starting to sound like a catchy pop tune to me. However, they want to see Amano and by the time the convention rolls around, it will be four years since he was here. And I understand that he would love to come. We could decide what's best for them to see instead of more Amano, but as you say, we aren't busting with alternatives. Maybe we should even bring Kasselman back.

Maybe we could make two lists:

Likely biggest draws
Likely most interesting

And see how what the overlap is.

Re tasks,

These are some of the tasks that come to mind – feel free to redact with passion:

Money Gathering:

Sales and Sign-in Tables Staffing

Treasury – cash management-accounting

Ad/sponsorship selling

Money Lending

 Oops, that’s a different list.

Registration

Head Counting and name-taking

ID Tag production

Field Trip Organizer

This is mostly a procurement (location and transport) task

Auction Actions:

Auction organizer

Auction tech support

Auctioneering

Auction bag/ticket runners

Speaker tender – care and feeding

Vendor tender – care and feeding

Gimmee Getme Tasks:

Hotel services procurement

Speaker procurement – invitations, follow-up, travel timing-coordination, etc.

Speaker gift procurement

T-shirt procurement

Solicitation – spreading the word by email, ads, or shouting to solicit registrants

ID Tag procurement

Eat Drink procurement

AV equipment – local equipment supplies

Mass entertainment – group actions:

I volunteer to keep track of registration. I will not do the sales table this year, although I am willing to recruit and train someone else to do it.

The DFWAPC is petering out lately. The last few meetings have been sort of lame and poorly attended, mostly due to lack of leadership IMO. A huge project of this type would either regenerate the club or break it completely.

And finally, I believe I am among friends here so I will speak honestly. I am against having Amano speak. It's like we can't think of anyone else. I don't have any better ideas other than what has been talked about on this list. Maybe it's time to get some new blood in on the discussion.
