Re: [AGA-mcm] AGA 2K10

Quick questions and a quick comment:

Should MASI start looking at early November of 2012? We'd like to try and
coordinate something with the MO Botanical Garden if they are interested,
and because they plan things further in advance, we will probably need to
get going on this soon. Are we going to continue on the bi-annual
convention schedule?

On a totally different topic:

Playing the devil's advocate regarding a collecting trip - I would very
seriously suggest we NOT do something like this as an official AGA event.
Collecting is great fun, but it can also be dangerous, especially when you
have a group of inexperienced people who don't know the terrain and
potential dangers. In a group, people tend to pay even less attention to
their surroundings and instead pay more attention to their fellow
collectors. In Florida potential dangers include venomous snakes, 'gaters,
potential for injury from falls on slippery rocks, etc.

As an example, the AKA does a collecting trip every year in association with
their convention, but it is set up separate from the convention and occurs
after the convention is over. It's just a group of friends who goes
collecting together, each assuming liability for him/herself.

If we do have a collecting trip, it should be an extra event set up outside
of the parameters of the convention, or we need to make sure our liability
policy will cover any potential problems.

As always, just my two cents,

Mike
