This site includes, for example, this page: http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ1.html#wci which explains what a copyright is, and lists the several important rights that copyright holders have, in addition merely to the right to make copies, that most explanations miss. These other rights include the right to distribute, the right to perform, the right to display publicly, the right to create derivative works.
