RE: local groups
AGA definitely supports local and regional groups. We even have a position called "Regional Coordinator" which is part of the overall the AGA management structure. This is mentioned on the web page. Some of the more established local groups might help with communicating the benefits and challenges of starting a plant club. I am sure that there are quite a few local groups that AGA doesnt even know about. In part this has to come from the local level. I know that I am guilt myself in not formally telling the AGA about CAPE (the Carolina Aquatic Plant Enthusiasts), a small informal group in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Area.

A presentation or discussion session focusing on the benefits and
challenges of starting a plant club might receive a lot of interest. An
example of this national/regional relationship is the American Killifish
Association. They have had huge annual conventions, along with annual
east or west coast-specific multi-club events, all supported by
sub-groups of local and regional members. Granted they have a much
larger membership, but the idea seems to work.
I apologize if this topic has already been discussed on the list, or is
already in the works and I missed it.
