If I misunderstood the conversation on the way to lunch about "Boston" not being practical and therefore is out, I appolgize. Believe me, I like the idea of Boston. Unlike Chattanooga and Houston, I can fly their non-stop, and ~25% of the US population are within a few hours driving distance. The high concentration of AGA members in the Boston Area is another big plus. I really thought I heard someone say : "OK, then we can have it in Houston," and with no-one disagreeing. >I can also tell you I will NOT be available to arrive early and run myself >ragged another location for a 3rd year in a row. So you, Neil, or someone >else will have to commit to taking extra time off from work and going down >there early to help out the local people with details. Karen, I hope you are not saying that with any angry tone... and I certainly agree with one of your other comments that the host organization calls the shots and that AGA-SC should not micro-manage. I like the way ACA picks the next location (at least what I remember from 10-years ago)--interested clubs make proposals and the ACA board makes a selection or gives their approval. From what I remember, track record on putting on an event and having local folks to do the needed work are important considerations. Regarding the "summit," the one in Japan was a small meeting. My impression for ours was always quite different. When Claus and I first discussed the idea at the NEC, I believe we both thought of it as a large gathering. Isn't that why the first AGA conference was called a dry run for the summit. It was also always obvious to me that most of the attendance would come from the host country, but the format if not the title might make it easier to attract several big names. If people want a format which only includes no more than one speaker from across the pond per year, I could be happy with that too. I thought I was just making some suggestions. Now, I will be quiet.
