...to say that I think this year's convention is probably going to bomb.  

Charlene has set the price at $125, and only sent me the brochure for
registration, the first actual information to be released to the public
and to myself, TODAY, once she completely finalized all the speakers.  
The speaker list is Claus Christensen, Jeff Senske, me, Chuck Gadd, and
Don Kingore (Kent Marine).  Nothing special Sunday.  Friday tours
(starting at 3 PM) are of Aquarium Design Group (senskes), Village
Tropical (good fish store), and Aquarium Environments (?).  While it will
be cool to see Claus again, if I were considering spending the hefty fee
for this, I would be asking myself if I'd rather fork over half the cash
to attend the NEC and see similar calibre stuff in better quantity.

I have mentioned this before to folks, including Charlene, but I know the 
response has been "well, she's in charge, so she gets some leeway."  
Meanwhile, I have been hearing other folks (via Kathy) saying they won't 
go because it's now too short a notice.

I don't think there's anything we can do for this year, but it is my hope
that if next year's event (if there is one) is held by the NEC folks, that
they take more of the matter into their own hands, and manage to (a)
publicise the event more than 4 months in advance, (b) get feedback on
speaker lineup, and (c) talk to others while organizing it.
