The contest continues to be cool. Every time we do those awards at the banquets, I am reminded of this. And this year I've been on two forums (TAOPA and DFWAPC) that the results have spurred new and exciting discussion (if only for 2 weeks). That's cool. That's what makes it worthwhile. I enjoy chairing the contest and running the tech, but as I've stated for the past 3 years, I won't do vendor PR. I hate that stuff, and am no good at it. So I continue to search for help, and it's been pretty marginal, and that's OK. Charlene let Karen and I pick a hundred bucks or two worth of prizes out of the measly donations in 2001 and 2002, which was supplemented with a modest cash prize for best-of-show. But this has been the first year that "the convention folks" flat-out denied me at the last minute because of trivial budget concerns. Which I think *sucks* when you consider the amount of personal donation I already put in: 1) I donated my hotel room comp so that George and Karla would be in the budget, 2) I hauled all my A/V gear in yet again so that we could save $500 or so in rentals, 3) I paid for my field trip, and 4) I donated the few plants I brought (no idea of the cash value, but I'm guessing it probably brought in over $100). OK, so maybe it would be a good thing to allocate some money for this so I don't blow apart. I wasn't very annoyed about it when it happened, but since Kathy wrote that e-mail and I've been forced to think it over, it's got me a bit steamed. Sorry. Please return to the turkey and potatoes. - Erik -- Erik Olson erik at thekrib dot com ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, e-mail majordomo@thekrib.com with "unsubscribe aga-sc" in the body of the message.
