Fyi, Larry had some comments. I think they make sense. Refund policies ought to be clear and stated or linked to a
statement. Imo, it's just good, fair business practice.

Yes. I also think we should make this into a standing AGA convention "policy" so future clubs will know what to say when this issue comes up again. And you *know* that it will!

If we want to be nice and take all comers ("leavers" is
probably more appropos), then we ought to say how nice we
are, imo.

Definately! Don't be afraid to state the obvious, i.e. that the cancellation fee is to reimburse us for the Paypal transaction. :-)

Slightly paraphrased by me, Larry suggests:

Refunds:
Allow refunds to anyone up until a specific date, which
should be, at the very least, a few weeks prior to
having to give the hotel final counts for banquets,
vans, roomnight guarantees, etc. I would prefer to be even more conservative and
maybe go for 60 days as Rick suggested. Regardless the
policy should be posted on the registration web site.

Yes. I like this. People have to know that pre-convention registration is so we can count on the number of people. (Remember when the Houston crowd was wondering whether they should cancel?)

[To which Scott adds, a small fee should be stated to deter
those without good faith.]

Scott, in theory, I conceed your logic, but I think we should make this guy an exception. He is a long-time member with whom I have corresponded personally--he has jumped through some hoops to pay his membership dues. *And* we didn't state the policy in advance. I may be outvoted, but that's what I think.

I don't mind if we add the cancellation fee for the next fellow after him, as long as it's stated on the web site. It may even apply to *me* because it looks like David (my husband) may not be able to come after all. :-(

Early Bird: Don't resell refunded early-bird discounted
regs to anyone; it is not fair. If they go to anyone,
it should registrants 51 and 52. But it was a promotion done to test early for the potential draw. Early Bird is over.

I agree. Any other way would be too complicated, and *overly* generous.
