Hi Jay,Any proposal that puts a competent person in place of me on a project that has been one of my "not-so-favorite-but-still-overbooked" ones... is an excellent one to me. Last year I was so busy with doing video and A/V that I didn't even bother to bring a still camera, and I was so busy with post-production on the video and pre-production on the baby that I didn't really have time to do more than I did on the gallery. So I personally would love to have someone take over that responsibility. Some of the things that come to mind:
* Are you willing to take on the job of editing and organizing the gallery in addition to taking the pictures? (Note that the gallery isn't really kept "in perpetuity" but for the better part of the next year. If we get it done quickly enough, we can stick it on the DVD as well.)
* When I shot pictures in AGA2002 (with bounce flash, mind you!), I put not only my own pictures in the gallery, but also several others' work (though with preference for bounce flash). I think we'd like to continue in this vein -- if you were to take on the job of creating the convention gallery, would you be OK having to also sort through others' contributions?
* There isn't an official Convention Videographer position, just my name listed on the videos as producer... not sure what sort of equivalent weight there is on an official photographer position either, or where it would be listed. Perhaps the best approach for recognition would be to have your name on the gallery (in addition to the copyright burn-ins on your photos, of course!).
Those are the thoughts that initially come to mind. What do you think? - Erik On Sun, 29 Aug 2004, Jay Luto wrote:
Hello All,AGA'03 is a history and AGA'04 is around the corner. I had a blast in Dallas but this year I feel like I want to participate bit more. Virginia/Maryland is too far to participate in hands on preparations so I try to spread the word as much as I can in local community. NJAS, where I'm a Plant Program Chairman, got a noticeable dose of AGA advertisement this year and I plant to continue to do so until November.I thought about an idea of creating a Convention Photographer position and I would like to nominate myself (shameless plug). I plan to attend AGA Conventions on annual basis so this could be an ongoing project. AGA upgraded technology level with multiple cameras, projections, conference equipment and last but not least CD vs. VHS burning. Why not upgrade Photo Gallery ?.You could see my photography skills on my website. There is a link on AGA website to my AGA'03 review article with attached pictures. Of course I'm not looking for compensation but rather recognition and satisfaction. Not sure if Erik remembers me but I was the guy who took pictures with flash facing up and bouncing light off ceiling. We had a discussion about that. Karen should remember me from the Convention and emails between NJAS and January presentation. Scott should know me well as we are from the same neck of the woods. Ghazanfar, good friend of mine and with whom I discussed this idea, felt positive about this concept.Pictures/Portfolio www.greenstouch.com (fish/plants/flowers/events/landscape) Equipment Nikon D70 DSLR w/ Nikon SB 800 external flash Canon G2 w/ Canon 230EX external flash Awaiting your response.
