Re: [AGA-sc] Re: Aquatic Gardener's Association meeting 2005 (fwd)

Hi,

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this, San Jose is close to both SF and Monterey, good flights in and cheaper than SF and probably Monterey.

WE can't get alaska to fly in there, I will check southwest. That means we may have to do a major airline and fly back to a hub, ie Utah, Denver, Dallas and then fly back, that is a pain!!

Actually, there is a Monterey airport. I was able to find flights there
from Boston. Of course, not without a connection, but that is certainly
true of Hartford too.

I guess it's a trade-off. You pay more for hotels in a big city, or you pay
more for your flight going to a smaller city :-/

defintely not close to any airports, getting there is a definite problem,
they should have a good plan for that.

We should be careful, though, because how involved is Dave in SFBAAPS
these
days? Dave and Tom don't have the best working relationship either. I'm
tempted to beleive Dave in this case based on what I know about Tom.

I think I'm on exactly the same page as the rest of you, namely that Tom
may
need to be shown that the convention chair must be able to follow lots
of
threads simultaneously, can lead, and can organize. Not to mention
communicate effectively. There's a lot of good potential with these
three
clubs, but it could be seriously !@*$'d up if not done right.

Monterey (a.k.a. "Money-terey") is not going to be a cheap or easy place
to
hold a convention, btw. It's several hours' drive from the SF area on a
small road. But it's a great place to hold a day field trip where you
just
drop people off and let them do what they want.

I had the same thought... especially since I just talked to Dave who
said
SFBAAPS is NOT on-board. Not that he thinks they wouldn't GET on
board,
but
he doesn't think they are there yet. Maybe a good next step would be
to
ask
Tom to get some of the leaders of these other groups (especially those
who
think they might be willing to chair or co-chair the event) involved in
the
discussion.

This would be one of those red flags Karen mentioned, and probably
something to deal with quickly...

"I'm not the leader perhaps, but I'll be doing many things here with
it.
We are organizing the whole sfbapps club now and have tossed this idea
around a few times over the years. All the ducks are in a line."
