I got an advertising rate sheet from Tropical Fish Hobbyist. Because we
are a non-profit organization, we can have color ads for black-and-white
prices, and we can have 2005 rates. Yay.
If I wade through their complicated discount structure, I come up with
the following prices:
1/4 page ad:
12 issues $5602.80 or $466.90 each
6 issues $3001.50 or $500.25 each
3 issues $1600.08 or $533.60 each
Dimensions:
1/4 Vertical W 4.125" X H 5"
1/4 Horizontal W 8.5" X H 2.435"
1/6 page ad:
12 issues $4347.00 or $362.25 each
6 issues $2375.33 or $395.89 each
3 issues $1253.64 or $417.88 each
Dimensions:
1/6 Vertical W 2.675" X H 5.065"
1/6 Horizontal W 5.6" X H 2.435"
MOTION
Based on these prices, I move that we purchase 6 months of 1/6 page ads,
beginning with the July issue and running until the end of 2006.
This gives us a littl time to come up with some different ads and
finalize convention details for advertising. It also takes advantage of
the Holiday 2006 season.

Please note we are currently working on the June 2006 issue of TFH which
will be in distribution April 20th. Space reservation is due by February
28th. Art materials by March 8th.
Camera ready art is submitting your artwork in digital format. We accept
high resolution (300dpi or better) CMYK TIFF, EPS files. To ensure the
best printing results, we preferred high resolution PDF files. JPG files
are not accepted. Black & White ads must be high resolution (300dpi or
better) grayscale files. Line Art must be 600dpi (grayscale of CMYK) or
better.
The dimensions for a 1/4 page are...
1/4 Vertical W 4.125" X H 5"
1/4 Horizontal W 8.5" X H 2.435"
The dimensions for a 1/6 page are...
1/6 Vertical W 2.675" X H 5.065"
1/6 Horizontal W 5.6" X H 2.435"
In terms of billing...as a first time advertiser with TFH we require
your first month's ad to be paid up front. Each subsequent ad ran will
be billed as the ad appears. For example..if you run in our June 2006
issue...first month's payment will be due in advance by March 8th. An
invoice for the following issue will be received April 20th (along with
a comp. issue), at which point you will have a month to submit payment.
If you agree to run 6 ads you can run a different ad each issue as long
as it is received by the artwork deadline for each issue. The issues do
not have to be consecutive.

Thank you for the information. Having now completed the layout on our
own magazine, I am ready to return my attention to this project.
Can you please tell me the dimensions for a 1/4 page ad and a 1/6 page
ad? Also, what file types you accept, what constitutes camera ready art,
and how the billing works?
