The points are being given because the contract requires them to gives the points -- they're like a little bonus feature like green stamps or Marriot Rewards Points, etc..
The $1,800 is entirely a separate thing, a liquidation of damages for not performing in some way under the contract -- basically, a cash payment being accepted as remedy for the harm caused by the hotel to the AGA.

credit, but then you said they were giving you 8500 Starpoints. Is that
INSTEAD of the credit because we don't have a balance to credit against? If
so, it looks like it's only worth about $100 on Amazon.
