50 ppm is pretty vague I will assume that you are talking about General Hardness. In which case that is fine for Apistos and Rams. 1º of Hardness, whether it be KH (carbonate hardness) or GH (general hardness) is equal to 17.9 ppm. Therefore your water, again assuming general hardness, has approx. 2.8º GH. This is considered very soft water, a perfect environment for apistos or Rams. On the other hand if you were measuring KH, it cannot be presumed that your water is soft, since GH is a measure of the calcium and magnesium in you water. My GH readings and KH readings are never the same, not to say that they can't be, both are separate animals and have to be tested for separately. Excuse the length, hope this helps.
