The Kent Marine RO units typically have a 1:4 product to waste water ratio. However, on units that produce 50+ gallons of water a day, the ratio becomes approximately 1:2.5. This is depending on tap water pressure, which is ideally 65 psi, and water temperature, which is ideally 75-77 F. Also, the TDS of your tapwater affect the unit, but mostly in the way of life-span for the membrane. Here in Atlanta, where the TDS is below 100 ppm, a unit will last some 2,000 gallons or more. In areas with high TDS, say over 600 ppm, the unit will produce less. The cost of this water is somewhere around 0.5 cents a gallon, plus the initial cost of the unit. I run a Maxxima Hi-S 60 gpd at home for my discus aquarium. It is a combination RO/deionization filter, and works very well. BTW, straight deionized water is another alternative, and costs around 10 cents a gallon.
