Partner Compatibility

I have a question about age/size compatibility for spawning apistos.  My
male panduro has died, and the only substitutes I have are 7 month old
offspring from my original pair.  The males are of varying sizes, with the
biggest about 1.5" TL.

Would I be ok putting one of these males in with my mature female or would I
be better off trying to pair a male with one of my females of the same
age/size?

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.
