I think what I'd do in this case would be to seek out some biotope images, and use these as a basis for a display. A recent copy of Aqua-Geographia had a feature about the Santarem area, with some fantastic pics of the Cichlid fauna found there. Real food for thought. I also bought a Dwarf Cichlid book in German the other week which has in some absolutely superb images of Apisto's in their natural biotope and in naturalistic aquarium settings. I hadn't heard of the book before, I think the author's name is Fiedler, but it's well worth getting hold of even if you can't read German. Again, something to look at and think about visualizing how to reproduce this in the home aquarium.
