Hi Alan,
peat is not known for absorbing medication, impurities, etc.
Peat is used to enrich water with acid as well as releasing antibacterial
substances and humid acid which are contributing to the
overall health of your fish & Plants !
Check out the link, it will give you enough information
on how to use peat and it's effect.
