Rich, This might be a new fish in Germany, but I've been breeding this fish since 1997 - and selling it as Anomalochromis sp. Guinea (I have a copy of Uwe's article on An. sp. Rußkopf/Sooty-head, and it's the same fish.). I've had no problems breeding them, just try to stop them! Keep them at pH 6.5 and moderately soft and they should be fine.
